Kidnappers demand N25m ransom for release of youth leader in Rivers
Abductors of the Youth President of Ozuzu community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State have contacted the family.
Kingdom Aforole was kidnapped alongside Winston Nwachukwu and three others in an ambush by unknown gunmen on their way from Port Harcourt to attend a ceremony at Ozuzu-Etche.
Meanwhile, the President General of Ogbako-Ozuzu-Etche, Felix Ordu, confirmed to newsmen in Port Harcourt that the kidnappers were demanding N25 million.
In the meantime, the Rivers State Police Command has denied knowledge of the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said the authorities were not aware of such incident.
Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, also denied knowledge of the recent kidnapping of a lecturer of the College of Education Technical in Omoku, Isaac Messiah, together with his daughter.
Omoni said “none of the incidents mentioned above were reported to the police”, stressing that without reporting incidents of crime, it becomes difficult for the police to do their job.
The PPRO disclosed that the State Police Command was only aware of the abduction of a medical doctor in Omoku town, the headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.
He said detectives were still investigating the incident with a view to ensuring that the victim was freed from the kidnappers.
Omoni promised to get across to the Divisional Police Officers in various police formations in the state for updates on incidents of crime in their areas of responsibility.
