This girl took a simple selfie and now people think her T-shirt possesses magical powers
At first glance, it's a just a girl taking a selfie, dressed in a simple striped top.
However, it's 2017 and nothing is what it seems. The apocalypse is nigh and if you thought we'd left trippy clothes illusions back in 2015 with THAT dress, you were wrong.
After Twitter user mmmadelinee posted the seemingly innocent selfie, others were quick to notice there was some sort of optical sorcery going on.
Here's the original selfie
When viewed like this, nothing seems amiss or unusual.
However, for reasons we can only hazard a guess at, someone decided to zoom in to the photo.
And when they did, strange things began to happen.
Give it a try.
Click on just the picture then zoom in and out of the photo.
The stripes on the top appear to distort in a trippy fashion. The same effect is also achieved by scrolling up and down when the photo is enlarged.

"Not today Satan"
These weren't the only reactions to The Top (which, by the way, is from Forever 21). Quite literally thousands of Twitter users reacted, some more genuinely than others.
We're pretty sure this did not happen to this girl.
But even in these topsy-turvy times, there is nothing really remarkable about this phenomenon.
It's called aliasing.
By definition, aliasing is "an effect that causes different signals to become indistinguishable (or aliases of one another) when sampled.
"It also refers to the distortion or artifact that results when the signal reconstructed from samples is different from the original continuous signal."
We like this person's more digestible explanation.
