Burglars carry out dead of night raid to steal 240lbs of PEARS from top doctor's 300-year-old tree
Burglars have broken into a doctors house in the dead of night and stolen 240lbs of PEARS.
The retired doctor and his wife were sleeping when the thieves stripped their 300 year old pear trees bare of fruit.
The couple were just yards away in their thatched cottage home.
John Van De Pette and his wife Jenny woke up to find "many many hundreds" of pears had been pinched from their garden in Amport, near Andover, Hants.
Furious Mr Van De Pette, 63 - who used to practice at both Frimley Park and the Royal Hampshire County Hospitals - said: "I presume it is for somebody making booze.
"They have got into our garden overnight while we were asleep and stripped the trees of the pears. It is an incredible amount of pears."
His wife, Jenny, also aged 63 added: "It is unbelievable - we did not hear a thing.
"All three trees were completely stripped. There are no pears left. The pears weighed well over two hundred weight."
Hampshire Police are appealing for witnesses.
